Swimming and Smoke

We went swimming today. And when I say "we," I mean all of us. Even me. That's right. I. Went. Swimming. It's been years since I've gone swimming. I don't like wearing a swim suit and I don't really like getting wet (unless it's unbearably hot or I'm taking a shower).

But I got a new swim suit for this trip, it's super cute, and I thought I'd put it to use. Plus, Angela jumped into the cool pool and I couldn't let her show me up. So I jumped too. Nothing like a little sibling pressure.

It was a lazy day. We hung out at the pool for several hours, then came home and had dinner. After dinner we went to Loard's Ice Cream for dessert. It was kind of sad because it was so unlike the Loard's of my childhood. The Peter Pan didn't have peppermint ice cream. The whole ice cream parlor didn't even have peppermint ice cream. And there was no candy, and no pink and white upholstered seats.

But it was still good.

After ice cream we went to the fire station to see Uncle Andrew. We were right in the middle of checking out the fire truck and the treadmill when a call came in for a structure fire. We had to hustle out of there and watched as the truck pulled out, sirens blaring, on the way to save the day.

It was exciting. I pictured Andrew hosing down the flames. Maybe hacking through a roof with his axe. Definitely carrying out a cute puppy.

As it turns out, the house fire was actually a backyard barbecue with lots of smoke that was alarming to someone driving by with a cell phone.

So, you know, illusion shattered.

I feel the same way you do about swimming. Taking my daughter to a Mommy and Me swim class this summer was a DEFINITE sacrifice!

No peppermint ice cream?!!! My favorite at Loards is peppermint ice cream with hot fudge. Yummmmmmmm.

Swimming is so over. So is Peppermint Ice Cream. And the Redwoods? That is so 60 million years ago.

...Oh, wrong blog post!

Sounds like you guys are having a great time. I'm loving the daily blog posts... you should travel more often!

I had a similar experience when I went to my childhood ice cream shop. It was so sad!

So...how was swimming after being away for so long? I've never understood why people don't like to swim. I LOVE IT!
