Plan of Attack!

Found: A map of the neighborhood, drawn by Ethan, with a Halloween trick-or-treating plan of attack. Includes a key with colors indicating good and bad homes (good homes give out full sized candy bars) and arrows indicating the most efficient route. Almost illegible notes give these instructions: take extra candy bag and first aid kit just in case.

Should I be worried that Ethan thinks he will need a first aid kit for trick-or-treating or be happy he is thinking ahead? As for the extra candy bag…I don’t know how to break this to Ethan…if he has that much candy that he needs a 2nd bag, I’ll be handing out the contents of the first bag in big fistfuls to anyone who comes ringing our doorbell.

Sounds like the girls; although they don't have a map just yet. I did the same thing last year with their candy. They came back dumped it out and went back out for more.

do you guys moderate, then, how your kids eat the Halloween candy, like 3 pieces a day or something? I think that sounds like a good idea but Derek thinks we should just let the kids eat it all as fast as they want and then be done with it.

I hate the candy. It translates into many little wrappers in the couch cushions, on the floor, under, over, on top of too many things. Very irritating. I have always been of the opinion that the kids should eat it all right away, brush their teeth for 10 minutes and go to bed with a stomach ache.

Jonah and Isaac still get a small amount of candy, but Ethan is getting to the point where his candy haul is obscene. So, I've tried to implement ways to get rid of the candy. This includes throwing some of it out when they aren't looking, tell them that the Halloween Witch will leave them a toy in exchange fot their candy, and freezing some of it to use on gingerbread houses later in the year.

I am submitting an article to www.trackmyfoodstorage.com on this very subject. I'm not sure when it will be posted though. I can send you a copy. I think there are also ideas for chopping up candy bars to use as chocolate chip substitutes in cookies.

Basically, I want to get rid of the candy as fast as possible. If you portion it out, it could last until Easter, and that is a whole other candy mess.

This is so funny. I love this map. I can't believe he thinks he needs a first aid kit! Intense child.
