The Laundry Channel

We upgraded to the Laundry Channel on Saturday when a new LG washer and dryer were delivered to our home. The old washer and dryer were 13 years old and, I thought, headed for the big Sears repair shop in the sky.

Shouts of "Come upstairs! Quick!" and "This is so awesome," peppered our afternoon as we did our first load. We would have liked to have watched more laundry spinning around, but due to the washer's large capacity, we simply ran out of dirty stuff. On Monday Ethan was eager to wash his own load. He had fun pushing the buttons to get the settings just right. Unfortunately, when the load was done, he found he'd inadvertently washed his Nintendo DS. A complete loss.

Now, after 5 days, the Laundry Channel has lost some of its cache. In fact, Ethan hasn't been back to the laundry room since the Nintendo DS tragedy and I expect won't be until clean clothes become important to him. I'm guessing 3 years?

I, on the other hand, still get a little excited when there are enough dirty things in the laundry basket to wash another load. I carefully dry the gasket and the inside of the door of the washing machine with a little towel so we don't get a mildewy smell. I lovingly wipe fingerprints off the shiny surface and windowed door. I sneak a peak at it's sleek newness every time I pass by.

Give me another week and I'm sure I'll be over it.

You lucky! What a treat to have a new washer and dryer!! Such a tragedy about the DS though. I've washed a DS game before and luckily it was fine. We would probably have weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth if a DS died at our house.

Why did you choose LG? We are in the market for a second set and want another front loader. Thoughts?

Emily, Robert did all the research. he loves that kind of thing. He read consumer reports and read on-line reviews. This model was recommended by Consumer Reports and just happened to be on sale at Home Depot. I wish we could have gotten a super crazy color, like Kiwi or cayenne, but usually color is $100 extra! The pedestals were around $200 each so we didn't get those either.

I hope the vacuum cleaner does not get jealous of the new washer and dryer. Maybe the washer and dryer should sleep with their door locked!

When we got our first front loading washer I sat myself down with popcorn and watched an entire load! How nerdy is that...but I loved it! :)

I don't know whether to be more excited about your new W/D or sad about the DS (sad if it was your money, not so sad if it was his money and he'll now be playing less)!

My Whirlpool Duet washer has a cleaning cycle you run ever so many wash loads. Does yours have something like that? If not, I would think that just running a cycle with bleach and nothing in the tub every 20 loads or so would help prevent the yuckies. Perhaps a little internet research is in order on this topic. Enjoy! I've had my front-loaders, washer and dryer, for 6 months now and haven't even begun to get tired of them! Sally

What a beautiful set and what a horrible tragedy over the ds! I wonder if there will be some unfortunate psychological association that will prevent him from ever running a load again? Lol, hopefully the pain will subside and he will forget all about it and be back to washing laundry again in no time.
Congrats on the new set and welcome to the world of front loaders!
