Too Much Work

TV hasn't been the same since we got rid of our satellite TV service and our digital video recorder.

I have to order my life around the TV schedule, to be sitting right in front of it when the show I want to watch comes on. And if the phone rings or the kids come in and start talking during the program...forget it.

There is no "pause" and no going back.

I suppose I could record a TV show using our VCR and regain the powers of "pause" and "fast forward", but that would require us to set the clock on the VCR, which just seems like too much work. Plus, who KNOWS where the VCR manual is.

I have watched one show on line, which was fine, but there was only a spinning office chair to sit in and no ottoman or soft pillows and cushions.

Not so comfy.

So, sorry TV. You are just too much work for me. And what I find most interesting is that I don't think I'll miss it at all.

Really.

That is exactly how we have felt since getting rid of the Dish in the fall! One thing we have found is that, with the right cables, you can hook the laptop (if you have one) up to the TV for important things you don't want to miss, such as General Conference or the finale of American Idol. It's working so far, and it really limits what we watch, based on the amount of work. For additional shows for the kiddos, we just upped our Netflix subscription and include this or that Disney movie regularly on our queue.

I don't know what it's like to have Dish and the rewind DVR thingy, but I can see how that would be frustrating for you when you're so used to having it. Do what you have to do to make your life easier, and if it's getting Dish back, I say go for it. You can try to save money somewhere else, but really, some things you just can't do without!

I have Direct TV now and rarely watch. After 2 years without it, I don't miss it at all. I maybe watch one show a week. The kids are completely sucked in, but I just hide the remote and they can't turn on the TV any other way...sneaky mom!

Ha! I know what you mean! When we moved back down here to OR, we decided to save the money and not subscribe to anything. So we went from lovely pausing/rewinding/recording tv...to about 3 channels that are somewhat fuzzy. But we love it. We still can watch our faves, which happen to be on those channels (yay for House...American Idol...all that lol) and I do watch other shows on the net. But yes...not as comfy.

And oh...thank you SO much for that response! It was great to get. How are you able to find all these groups and people on Blogspot? I cant find anything...anyway, thank you again!
